filaments

a few weekends ago we wandered over to Flagstaff for the 2022 wool and fiber festival. it was pretty cool even though we didn't catch any live shearing of sheep.

however, I did acquire one of these tiny, adorable, 3d-printed cross-arm spindles. (some folks call them Turkish-style spindles but I have learned via the inimitable Abby Franquemont that this isn't so culturally accurate.)

we have a 3d printer that works with plastic resin. this particular printed spindle was made with filament though. I do wonder if a resin version would work just as nicely? maybe I'll try it and find out.

on this spindle I am spinning guanaco fiber and silk in an 80/20 blend, also bought at the festival from Cunnington Farms. it's a bit different from the top-whorl spindles I started with, but still very fun. plus it's so light I can practice spinning very fine.

what next?

oh, I joined our local guild a while back. next meeting is this upcoming Saturday.
