thursday night salsa

every thursday for the past while, in preparation for that night's episode of Survivor, dad has come home from the grocery store with sackfuls of produce which we then spend hours chopping into the most amazing salsa anywhere. below is our not-very-scientific recipe. make sure you have a bowl big enough and chips plentiful enough before you start. it wouldn't do to have a lot of half diced vegetables and nowhere to put them, eh?
dice
eight tomatoes
two green peppers
two sweet onions
two green habanero chillies
one or two perfectly ripe mangoes

mash
two large cloves garlic

chop
some cilantro

throw in
two tablespoons lime juice
salt and pepper, if you want
there once was a day when we could've grown all these vegetables ourselves...but until we get around to digging a garden in our rainy backyard here, this is as self-sufficient as we get. I love it.

now there are what...ten more weeks of this silly reality tv show? and after that, I'm sure my dad will find some other mindless entertainment, if not on a thursday, then some other day of the week, to sustain our salsa-making traditions. who needs Survivor to eat salsa? not me. you can find me enjoying a few spoonfuls for breakfast, some days. much more exciting than oatmeal.
