Of the two examples shown in the textbook, A appears to have more design problems than B. In B, the navigation is more clear, the font is easier to read, and the background and color scheme are not as glaring. In example A, the text is forced to explain the buttons and graphics and spell out to the reader that they are meant for navigation. In example B the navigation is far more intuitive and therefore has better usability. The clarity and simplicity of B is due to the way the design follows normal website conventions, putting the navigational links in the expected places along the bottom and left side. Were example A to follow these conventions, it would be a much more efficient interface.
